Most of us know that Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and effective first aid can save lives, but how many of us would know what to do when faced with a situation where someone is undergoing a cardiac or breathing emergency?
Considering that ambulances can often be held up in the city’s heavy traffic, knowledge of basic first aid and CPR in Bangkok could be crucial in sustaining heart function until the medical professionals arrive on the scene.
5 Easiest CPR Basics Anyone Can Do
Fortunately, this life saving skill can be learned relatively quickly with first aid training in Bangkok. As a starting point, this short guide outlines five CPR basics that everyone should know.
Check the patient’s responsiveness
It’s important to quickly get an idea of the situation so that we can best judge how to act. Try to rouse the patient by speaking loudly and shaking them firmly but steadily while gripping their shoulders.
If the patient does not respond, proceed by checking their breathing and pulse. Observe their chest area for signs of breathing and check for a pulse in their neck.
Open the patient’s airway
The patient should be positioned on their back with their head slightly back so as to lift their chin. Once in this position, listen carefully for signs of breathing for a maximum of ten seconds.
Start chest compressions
If there is no sign of breathing or pulse, the patient will require CPR. Place both hands, one on top of the other, on the centre of the chest. Push down repeatedly with force using your body weight and aim for a rate of 100 compressions per minute.
Administer rescue breaths
With the patient’s head tilted back slightly, pinch their nose closed and form a seal by placing your mouth over the patient’s mouth.
Then, blow deeply into the patient’s mouth to cause their chest to rise. Deliver two of these deep breaths before continuing with the chest compressions.
It’s worth noting that administering CPR can become tiring very quickly. Therefore, it might be a good idea to ask whether there is anyone else at the scene with CPR training in Bangkok who could provide further support to the patient.
Call 191
The simplest step of all is nonetheless vital. Be sure to call 191 as soon as you can to ask for an ambulance. The phone operators in Bangkok will have extensive first aid training and will be able to offer advice and even coach you through the situation until help arrives.
There’s no doubt that knowledge of first aid and CPR in Bangkok could save the life of a loved one or even a stranger in need.
Though these basics are simple enough, we must stress that reading about these steps is no substitute for genuine first aid and CPR training in Bangkok.
